Artist Nicholas Ramsden is opening Eidolon Art Studio in Mark Cross and has once again invited artists Carne Griffiths and Reem Acason. This year Nicholas is also joined by another old art college friend, Norwegian artist Lars Aurtende.

The exhibition marks the start of a new adventure for Nicholas Ramsden with four major projects. In September he starts an Artist in Residency’ at Walthamstow Hall in Sevenoaks, where he will also be a print making technician. This position was secured after becoming the Duke of Edinburgh Manager for the school.

Nicholas Ramsden also starts a Masters in Fine Art at the UCA in September at Canterbury on a two year part time course. As an artist this is a real turning point in his career. In 2001 Nicholas took a break from creating to pursue other ventures, however in 2014 he began working on a new art project exploring different concepts and theories. This has led to some existing new works which involve found objects and assembled pieces including the use of test tubes and white writing on glass.

Before starting new intaglio etching this winter, Nicholas Ramsden will be exhibiting prints from 1996 – 99 at his open studio in September, some of which have never been exhibited before. These works were created whilst under the apprenticeship of Brenda Hartill at her London Bridge Globe Studios.

An unusual side of Nicholas is that he is also a qualified mountain leader and paddle coach, running expeditions for young people. He is also the new Charity Officer for Tonbridge Gold’ who, from October 2018 will be a licence Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards. Although outdoor activities and art aren’t normally associated, nature and art do have a link for many artists. Although not directly symbolised in the artists designs, the philosophy and concepts of the works are born out of the artists journeys.

The opportunities ahead are extremely exciting, and the exhibition will be a special moment to look back over 20 years of creating art with, in particular, Carne and Lars who all studied together 25 years ago. Exhibiting both the past and the present will be an interesting prospect.
