In the Landscape

Artists who specialise in watching, enjoying the views and the things that appear, immersed in their subject and challenged to bring it all to our attention in their unique way.

They appeared from nowhere, bounced along the road ahead before disappearing into the darkening fields – a stag and his doe already bringing thoughts of Christmas.”

A magical moment and a timely reminder that we share this beautiful countryside with all manner of creatures. In the Landscape” brings together artists who specialise in watching, enjoying the views and the things that appear, immersed in their subject and challenged to bring it all to our attention in their unique way. From animals and insects, people and tractors or simply the skies above the fields.

There is more to landscapes than simply painting a favourite scene. The challenge is to capture the light and the mood, to evoke strong emotions in the viewer. The inclusion of people, animals and machinery helps to provide a sense of scale, a working history, a moment in time.

Humour can be found in the funny faces, the attitude and stance, or simply in the story told, knowing your subject well and looking on the brighter side of life. We do like to raise a smile with our ceramics and sculpture, if not a full blown belly laugh.

Artichoke have not forgotten the practical, from beautiful scarves to delicate jewels, there are plenty of gift ideas for your Christmas shopping from over 60 British artists and makers.
