Looking forward
to The Sussex
Guild events

For nearly fifty years the Sussex Guild has been invited to exhibit at Michelham Priory in the heart of the Sussex countryside. This year they are delighted to be returning for a four-day event from 3 to 6 August when Guild members, plus a few chosen guest exhibitors, will be displaying their inspiring work in the Elizabethan barn and in marquees on the lawns.

Members of the Guild are selected for their high degree of skill and creativity; they will be showing spectacular examples of ceramics, textiles, jewellery, leatherwork, stone carving, wood, glass and furniture. Most of the work can be purchased, or specially commissioned. In addition at this Contemporary Craft Show there will be craft demonstrations including: jewellery making, woodturning, embroidery and quilting, together with several ceramicists showing different aspects of their craft including clay modeling, pottery decoration, potters at their wheel and raku firings.

Historic Michelham Priory is ideal for a family day out. It has England’s longest medieval moat surrounding seven acres of beautiful gardens, working watermill, replica Bronze Age roundhouses, Medieval Gatehouse, together with the Tudor house explaining the history of the Augustinian Priory.

At Michelham there is disabled access to the craft show, gardens and most of the house. There is a licensed café serving light lunches and teas plus a picnic area and children’s play area. For more details about Michelham Priory see www.sussexpast.co.uk or call 01323 844224.

There is something for everyone at Michelham Priory, so why not combine a visit to the past with the Contemporary Craft Show where you can meet and see the designer makers in action? It will be a great day out and you may also find something special to take home with you.

Other forthcoming Contemporary Craft Shows are at Pashley Manor Gardens, www.pashleymanorgardens.com, the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea and in Midhurst. See www.thesussexguild.co.uk for more information.

Lastly there is the Sussex Guild Shop & Gallery in Lewes where thirty-five members exhibit their work, always there is a Guild member on duty to help. A free event is on the weekend of 2 – 3 September when members will be demonstrating their skills on the lawn and in the Event Room. In addition throughout the year a variety of craft workshops take place in the Event Room. The Shop can be found at historical Southover Grange, Southover Rd, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 1TP. The Shop is open 364 days a year from 10.00 to 5.00. From March to October a kiosk in the Gardens sells refreshments.
