South East Artists and Makers

South East Open Studios 2022 is live

Across Kent and East Sussex there is an incredible wealth of artistic talent, with artists practicing a variety of different media, from painting to printmaking, pottery to ceramics, sculpture to jewellery making, silver smithing, glass, woodwork, textile art, digital, illustration, mixed media… and more! If you are an art lover, be sure you make a note of the 3rd – 19th June 2022 in your diary, you really don’t want to miss this opportunity to indulge.

2022 is the 25th anniversary for South East Open Studios (SEOS), and is expected to be the biggest and best yet. In June, over 200 artists across the whole of the South East will open the doors of their studios to the public. For artists, taking part in SEOS is a great way to showcase artwork without having to take on the onerous task of putting on an exhibition’. It is the best way to connect with art lovers and receive feedback on work, whilst engaging with interested people about process and meeting other artists.

Kate Schuricht, a ceramicist based in Tenterden, has taken part in SEOS for over a decade, she says: I love the way that visitors are so excited to see artwork on show outside of a gallery setting. Opening our homes and workspaces to the public offers a greater sense of engagement, as the public can ask questions, see demonstrations of different art forms, buy artwork and sign up for workshops. SEOS visitors often become loyal customers and good friends. It is so beneficial to be part of a well-coordinated event, with such a good reputation.”

If you are an artist or maker living in the South East and would like to take part in SEOS 2022 (3rd – 19th June), visit the SEOS website and get signed up. But be quick, registration closes on the 31st January 2022. If you are an art lover, your local artists are looking forward to meeting you!
