OPEN Architecture

Located in the heart of Sevenoaks town centre, OPEN Architecture is one of Kent’s largest and most prestigious architectural and interior design practices. Their practice covers private residential, multi-unit retail developments, as well as planning and site appraisals.

OPEN Architecture comprises of RIBA chartered architects showcasing 67 years cumulative experience in providing architectural planning and design to businesses and residents in the southeast of Kent and London. One of their recent projects includes a 5,000 square foot house in the prestigious gated community of Farnborough Park. The residence is modern, with a nod to a Georgian architectural style in its symmetrical window placement, roof dormers and a central portico entrance, built from stone. The entrance opens onto a grand central spiral staircase, made in stone and timber – which serves all three floors. Each space is designed to deliver maximum light and future growth.

Aside from their new builds, they also have a passion for restoring agricultural or less loved spaces by introducing modern materials and building techniques.

The project in Edenbridge involved the conversion of an existing agricultural barn into a characterful residential dwelling within a scenic rural setting. The design brought new life into a dated masonry building which required significant restoration.

It creates a double height atrium connected by the feature staircase and viewing gallery adjacent to the first floor bedrooms, overlooking the living area. On the second floor there’s a vaulted roof, introducing fun creative spaces for the family to enjoy. Energy efficiency and sustainable design was a priority for the client, ensuring materials were reused to their maximum potential.

Another private residential project in Sevenoaks focused on a total contemporary refurbishment of a large, tired-looking family home.

Internally, the property was stripped back to the external brick skin and re-built incorporating new staircases throughout, including those to the loft space where a gym, play area and substantial store have been added.

The entrance is flooded with natural light via a double height galleried space. There is also a triple garage conversion, and an art studio that benefits from a double height roof void, overlooked by a mezzanine floor. The success of this refurb was reliant on combining quality design with superior materials and retaining a modern flow to it all.

Good design is not merely the result of the exterior looks, but how it all comes together inside and out. Every project they undertake is designed with purpose and how the space will be used, just as much as how it will look.
