GCSE Success at Kent College Pembury

Kent College Pembury is delighted to celebrate another year of exceptional GCSE results, showcasing both the school’s strong academic standards and exemplary pastoral care that together shape a supportive learning environment, meaning every student achieves above and beyond their potential. This year, approximately a third of all GCSE grades awarded were 8s and 9s, the highest possible marks, and around half of all grades were 7 or above, the equivalent of an A or higher under the old grading system.

Particularly impressive in this gently selective setting is the fact that 13% of students achieved the equivalent of straight 8s and 9s across all their subjects, reflecting both exceptional individual performance and the school’s commitment to the highest standards of teaching and learning at every level.

A remarkable 100% of grades awarded in Dance, German, Latin, and Further Maths were at grades 7 – 9, with Latin in particular to be congratulated for an outstanding 75% of grades at the top level 9

Over 70% of grades in key subjects including Business Studies, Computer Science, French, Geography, History, Textiles and Food Technology also fell within the top 7 – 9 range. Remarkably, nearly 50% of grades in History were level 9, with 67% in Food Technology and 64% in Textiles.

On average, students at Kent College achieved results that were 1.3 grades higher per subject than their nationally standardised predictions, demonstrating the school’s strong value added across all disciplines. The value added in individual subjects was particularly impressive, with students exceeding expectations by an average of +3 grades in both Dance and Textiles, +2.1 grades in Geography, +1.5 grades in German and P.E., +2.7 grades in Food Technology, and an outstanding +3.1 in Latin. In Mathematics, nearly half of all students exceeded their predicted grades by over a full grade.

In addition, students studying Astronomy offered as a unique collaborative course with Judd and Skinners’ schools achieved a 100% pass rate, a remarkable result given the subject was taught in just one lesson per week alongside their full GCSE programme.

Miss. Katrina Handford, Head of Kent College Pembury, commented:
