Holmewood House School, Langton Green, Kent
Set in 32 acres of stunning Kent countryside just outside Tunbridge Wells, Holmewood House is a leading non-selective prep school for girls and boys aged 3 – 13. We offer both day and boarding options, and a transformative education built on the values of Self-Belief, Aspiration and Kindness.
At Holmewood, we do things differently. We champion a growth mindset culture, where intellectual curiosity, creativity and resilience are celebrated, and every child is empowered to find their voice. Our pupils are not just prepared for their senior school — they’re prepared for life.
We’re proud to be a school that innovates. This year, we introduced Holmewood Horizons, a bold new curriculum created in collaboration with senior school specialists. It’s designed for the world our pupils will step into — not the one we grew up in. Covering everything from science and languages to coding and the creative arts, Holmewood Horizons focuses on real-world application, digital literacy and human-centred skills. It’s fully accessible, brilliantly challenging, and built to uncover each child’s unique strengths.
Holmewood House pupils leave as confident, well-rounded individuals. With a proven track record of academic success, most pupils gain entry to the top school of their choice and many pupils earn scholarships across academics, sport, music, art and drama, and move on to top senior schools including Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Brighton College, with ambition and resilience. At the heart of our senior years is our Scholarship Readiness Programme, alongside countless enrichment opportunities — all part of our mission to offer a truly future-ready education. But learning at Holmewood doesn’t stop at the classroom door.
We’re proud of our reputation for sporting excellence, with every child taking part in weekly team sports and fixtures, and many competing at regional and national level. Beyond the sports field, over 100 clubs and activities give pupils the chance to stretch, explore and discover new passions — from Lego robotics to philosophy club, ballet to bushcraft.
Innovation runs deep through Holmewood. Our new Head of Computing is driving a digital revolution, equipping pupils with VR goggles, AI chatbot research projects and cross-curricular tech skills. The arts flourish too, with 70% of pupils playing a musical instrument, professional-led drama productions, and a visual arts curriculum that blends traditional skills with digital design.
STEM enthusiasts dive into projects like the Greenpower Challenge, where pupils recently raced a hand-built electric car at the famous Goodwood race circuit or compete in our eSports Club. Creativity, curiosity and confidence go together at Holmewood.
We don’t know what the world of work will look like in 15 years’ time, so we have to prepare our children with knowledge, and with the mindset and skills to thrive in uncertainty — to think critically, collaborate effectively, and keep learning throughout their lives. One visiting parent recently told us how much they valued our forward-thinking and innovative approach to education: “I really appreciate your position on the challenges of educating in a time of great change and unknowns …there needs to be flexibility and agility in the way our children are educated”.
Pastoral care is equally exceptional. Our new Medical and Wellbeing Centre reflects our deep commitment to each child’s emotional health and happiness. Every pupil is known, nurtured and celebrated.
Boarding at Holmewood has a real buzz — offering full, weekly and flexi options from Year 5, and a chaperoned train service from London. Evenings and weekends are packed with fun and friendship, from on-site adventures to trips further afield.
Guided by Head Ruth O’Sullivan, Holmewood House l is rooted in a progressive, inclusive ethos. Her pioneering ‘My Heart, My Mind, My World’ curriculum, from Nursery to Year 8, empowers children to develop the learning behaviours and emotional intelligence they need for life. Pupil voice isn’t a slogan at Holmewood —it’s a lived experience. Whether earning a scholarship to Harrow or proudly completing the Junior Duke Award, every success is recognised and every child valued.
Come and see Holmewood in action. We run private tours throughout the week, with dedicated Early Years Group Tours, too. Our next Open Morning is on Friday 10th October. To book, contact Caroline Mulley, Admissions Manager, at admissions@holmewoodhouse.co.uk.
