Junior King’s and The King’s School Canterbury – A Seamless Pathway
At King’s, we are committed to ensuring every pupil’s school journey is well-supported, engaging, and tailored to their individual strengths and interests. The 11+ provision at Junior King’s (for pupils aged 3 – 13) plays a key role in this, offering a smooth and carefully structured transition into Senior King’s while preserving the many advantages of a prep school education.
Joining Junior King’s in Year 7 gives children the chance to benefit from two more years of prep school learning, where curiosity remains central, creativity is celebrated, and the freedom to explore is preserved. Year 7 and 8 pupils enjoy a broad and exciting curriculum supported by small class sizes, excellent facilities, and a strong pastoral system. Each pupil is known as an individual and guided in a way that helps them thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Through places offered at 11+ allow families to plan with confidence. Pupils benefit from regular contact with the senior school through visits, shared events, and lessons delivered by Senior King’s staff. This familiarity helps build a sense of continuity and belonging, so that by the time they move on to Year 9, the transition feels natural and positive.
The curriculum, too, is aligned across both schools. Our Global Perspectives programme begins in Year 7 and continues through to Year 9, encouraging pupils to think critically, ask questions, and explore global themes – valuable preparation for the challenges of GCSEs, A Levels, and life beyond school.
While the 11+ pathway offers a strong and connected route through King’s, we are equally proud of our large and vibrant 13+ intake. New joiners at this stage bring fresh ideas, new friendships, and help ensure our community remains dynamic and diverse.
