Oliver at Saint Ronan's
The curtain rose last night on a production that can only be described as pure theatrical joy, as Years 5 and 6 at Saint Ronan’s Prep School brought Oliver! to life in dazzling style.
From the very first note to the final triumphant chorus, the stage sparkled with energy, talent and heart. In true Saint Ronan’s spirit, the Performing Arts proved itself once again to be wonderfully inclusive, every child who auditioned took part, resulting in an extraordinary cast of 73. And what a cast it was.
The principal performers delivered standout performances, brimming with confidence and character, while the ensemble supported them with infectious enthusiasm. Every face on stage told the same story: this was a company of young performers relishing every moment under the lights.
Equally captivating was the incredible and imaginative set design, which transported the audience seamlessly from bustling Victorian streets to the warmth and wonder of each scene. Cleverly crafted and full of thoughtful detail, the staging complemented the entire production, creating a rich visual world in which the story could truly come alive.
What makes this achievement all the more remarkable is the context in which it was created. Balancing rehearsals alongside the full rhythm of school life, these pupils have produced a show of exceptional quality. As one visitor aptly put it, the standard was “akin to a musical theatre school in quality.”
Above all, the production was great fun, spirited, and full of the timeless charm that makes Oliver! such a beloved classic. Long after the final bows, the audience left humming, and even now, the echoes of “Oom Pah Pah” continue to ring out through the corridors and beyond.
Bravo to all involved, this was a night to remember and a celebration of creativity, commitment, community and the joy of performing.
