Roedean

Roedean is the place to nurture your talents, spark your curiosity, develop your skills, and let your imagination run riot.’

Every day is a special day for Roedean School students. An independent day and boarding school for girls aged 11 – 18 in East Sussex, Roedean offers an academic, inspiring and all-round education, where pupils thrive and grow into confident, emotionally intelligent individuals.

Located on a beautiful 45-acre campus that overlooks the sea, the South Downs National Park and Brighton Marina, the School is close enough to Brighton to take advantage of the city’s culture and dynamic atmosphere, but far enough away to enjoy the beauty of our unique cliff-top location. Being close to London, Gatwick and Heathrow (along with our chaperoned London Victoria service on Fridays and Sundays) makes an education by the sea accessible to Day girls, Full and Weekly Boarders.

Girls develop a love for learning at Roedean. The School encourages the pursuit of interests and intellectual challenge at all ages. Roedean students work hard to achieve target grades but are also self-aware and compassionate with good communication skills. Calista, in Year 13, describes her school experience as filled with new surprises and challenges every day.” Our latest GCSE results show a remarkable 71% of 9 – 8 grades (equal to A** and A*) and 71% A*-A grades at A Level. These outstanding results are evidence of the resilience, curiosity and confidence fostered by Roedean’s approach to academics. STEM continues to be a key strength; each year approximately 13 of our leavers go on to study STEM subjects at university, and Mathematics is regularly the most popular subject at A Level.

Roedean’s holistic ethos also places a high value on all the experiences that take place beyond the classroom, in Sport, Music, Dance, Drama and in the community. This all-round experience enables every girl to find her passion and voice; everyone leaves Roedean feeling that anything is possible. The opportunity for girls to be able to excel in several different fields is one of the great gifts of Roedean, since it provides them with the space and time to devote to their passions, and all in one place.

Roedean offers an individualised pastoral care system. This system isn’t an afterthought but is woven into the daily fabric of school life and is at the heart of every student’s success. Isabelle, in Year 10, adds: Roedean is amazing because of the atmosphere, and because if you need help there is always a friendly face to turn to, whether it’s staff or the pupils in the years above you.” Representing students from over 40 countries, the School has a dynamic feel; the girls hear about different experiences and traditions each day, and this helps to develop a strong sense of community and a deep understanding of other cultures and backgrounds. Roedean has a strong social conscience, and the girls enjoy playing an active role in the wider community. Popular weekly activities include volunteering at local primary schools and the Blind Veterans.

The School offers a truly inspirational setting for girls to grow up in, where opportunities are endless. Roedean’s holistic educational journey develops independent and creative young individuals, ready to embrace the world.
