Bespoke shoe service
The concept behind the Hetty Rose brand is based on a theory of re-using and re-working vintage materials in a creative and sustainable way, handmaking bespoke shoes. Hetty Rose is a passionate bespoke footwear company with a clear brand philosophy; to make an environmental statement in an aesthetically pleasing way.
The conceptual collection of shoes and accessories are completely handmade using mainly reclaimed, recycled and vintage materials. These are primarily vintage Japanese kimono fabrics, each holding different meanings shown by their use of colour and design. The designer, Hetty Rose, hand selects the most exquisite fabrics from Japan to use as uppers for shoes and creates unique ladies’ shoes. The fabrics have so many beautiful features with their use of colour and designs.
The handmade-to-order range includes a number of styles which can be made in a selection of vivid kimono print fabrics. Every process of the development of each product is entirely handcrafted by Hetty in her workshop in Maidstone, Kent. By offering a unique product and personal service, founder of Hetty Rose, Henrietta Rose Grogan seeks to raise awareness of handcrafted footwear made in Britain.
Hetty creates many shoes for special occasions and events. The process of having a pair of shoes made for you includes meeting with Hetty at her studio where we can discuss the style of shoe required, choose the kimono fabric, measure your feet and go through all the style elements of your shoes. The shoes are then cut, stitched and lasted for a fitting and then finished by adding the heels.
Prices for bespoke shoes are from £550. Allow 6 – 8 weeks for completion of your individual shoes.
Hetty also runs a range of shoe making courses. Her popular one-day Shoe Making Workshop offers a unique experience to create your very own pair of shoes. There are several shoe styles to choose from and heel heights ranging from flats to mid-height to high heels. No previous experience required as you will be expertly guided through each stage by designer Hetty, just bring an apron! The workshops are held at Hetty’s studio in Maidstone. The cost is £325 per person and gift vouchers are available.
Hetty also offers private one-on-one workshops, intensive shoe making courses, espadrille sandal making and baby shoe making workshops. Courses run throughout the year, see website for more information and to book online.
