Wild and Game
Venison and wild boar from premier game dealer, Ben Rigby
Wild and Game, the not-for-profit company on a mission to increase game consumption in the UK, has added a new premium range of game to their offering. The company has teamed up with the highly respected game dealer, Ben Rigby, to offer customers wild boar and venison.
In total, eight new Ben Rigby products have been added to the range, including 500g of diced venison for £4.99, 500g of diced wild boar for £5.49, plus venison and wild boar tenderloin and various steaks. Ben Rigby started game dealing in 1979 at the age of 17 and his family-run business has a stellar reputation, providing game to top-ranking restaurants as well as the public. Ben sources his wild boar from the Forest of Dean and his venison from estates in the UK and Ireland, including The Royal Parks, the Forestry Commission, and the National Trust.
Ben is especially well-known for his venison. Being free-range and pasture fed, it is an ethical alternative to commercially farmed meat. And while some people may have been put off venison in the past due to the strong flavour it develops when hung for days or weeks, Ben’s venison is hung for the minimal amount of time in order to ensure a fine, not overly gamey flavour. Instead it is lean, fresh tasting and beautifully tender. It’s also 100 percent traceable from estate, park and forest While many people are accustomed to ordering venison in restaurants, they seldom consider it something they can cook and enjoy at home. Wild and Game aims to change that.
Says Steven Frampton, Wild and Game co-founder: “Our aim is to get more people in the UK enjoying game on a regular basis. Meat like venison is in fact easy to cook – you can use it in a huge variety of dishes, from casseroles, pies, and lasagne through to a simple steak cooked on the grill. We want to give our customers access to the best quality game, so it was a natural choice to introduce Ben’s products to our range. Ben has an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s finest game dealers and teaming up with him has enabled us to broaden our range with more cuts of meat to choose from. Part of our mission is to inspire people to start cooking with game, and I’m sure this new range will help us achieve that.”
