It’s adults only for a steamy Christmas

Treat yourself to a heritage railway Yuletide Special

As we all know, when the countdown to Christmas begins the pressure builds, for making the day as magical as possible. With excited kids to calm, shopping to buy, cards to write, presents to wrap, food to prepare and a never-ending list of other jobs it’s no wonder that it can be one of the most exhausting times of the year!

This year why not make a change and give yourself a treat? After all Christmas isn’t just for children it’s a time for the big kids too! Travelling on the magical steam-hauled Santa Special has been a Christmas highlight for thousands of children for many years, but this year the Kent & East Sussex Railway are making sure the grown-ups don’t miss out.

Whilst the hugely popular attraction will still operate, there will also be Yuletide Special steam departures specifically targeted for adults, offering a cosy and leisurely journey through the beautiful Rother Valley countryside from Tenterden, Kent to Northiam, East Sussex.

Railway spokesman Helen Douglas, Sales & Marketing Manager, said It will be a great opportunity to forget the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle, get away from the domestic duties for a couple of hours and enjoy a relaxing trip on one of our magnificent historic trains. Father Christmas won’t be there (unless he’s a passenger!) but our guests will be treated to mulled wine and mince pies and the train will be festively decorated.’

We love running our Santa Specials and seeing the joy on the children’s faces, but thought adults deserve something a bit special in the lead up to Christmas treat too!’

A local choir will be at Tenterden station to create a festive atmosphere before the train sets off for the 70-minute round-trip. Each passenger will receive a complimentary mince pie and hot drink served on board during the journey with an opportunity to purchase additional light refreshments. You will also find a miniature model Christmas village at Tenterden station and there will be a chance to buy presents and mementos at the gift shop.

The Yuletide Specials will operate on Friday 10th December 2021. Book a solo seat, space for two or gather some friends and book a compartment which seats up to eight. You can also make it extra special by upgrading to first class.

The first train departs at 11.30am, but the fun starts at 10.30am with carol singing and mulled wine at Tenterden station. The afternoon train leaves at 2.30pm, with the festivities beginning at 1.30pm.
